The Midday Office
The Call to Prayer
God is the LORD; he has shined upon us;* form a procession with branches up to the horns of the altar.
Psalm 118:27
The Request for Presence
Open my lips, O Lord,* and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Psalm 51:16
The Greeting
Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;* let those who love your salvation say for ever, "Great is the LORD!"
Psalm 70:4
The Refrain for the Midday Lessons
The words of the LORD are tried in the fire;* he is a shield to all who trust in him.
Psalm 18:31
A Reading
You were dead, because you were sinners and uncircumcised in body: he has brought you to life with him, he has forgiven us every one of our sins. He has wiped out the record of our debt to the Law which stood against us; he has destroyed it by nailing it to the cross; and he has stripped the sovereignties and the ruling forces and paraded them in public, behind him in triumphal procession.
Colossians 2:13-15
The Refrain
The words of the LORD are tried in the fire;* he is a shield to all who trust in him.
The Midday Psalm
The LORD Is Faithful in All His Works
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion,* slow to anger and of great kindness. The LORD is loving to everyone* and his compassion is over all his works. All your works praise you, O LORD,* and your faithful servants bless you. They make known the glory of your kingdom* and speak of your power; That the peoples may know of your power* and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom;* your dominion endures throughout all ages.
Psalm 145:8-13
The Refrain
The words of the LORD are tried in the fire;* he is a shield to all who trust in him.
The Small Verse
Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for he has visited and delivered us. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Traditional
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for yours are the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
The Prayer Appointed for the Week
Almighty and merciful God, in your goodness keep me, I pray, from all things that may hurt me, that I, being ready both in mind and body, may accomplish with a free heart those things which belong to your purpose; through Jesus Christ my Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. †
The Concluding Prayer of the Church
O God, you make me glad with the weekly remembrance of the glorious resurrection of your Son my Lord: Give me this day such blessing through my worship of you, that the week to come may be spent in your favor; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. †
