The Midday Office

To Be Observed on the Hour or Half Hour Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m

The Call to Prayer

Bless our God, you peoples;* make the voice of his praise to be heard; Who holds our souls in life,* and will not allow our feet to slip.

Psalm 66:7-8

The Request for Presence

Let your ways be known upon earth,* your saving health among all nations.

Psalm 67:2

The Greeting

How great is your goodness, O LORD! which you have laid up for those who fear you;* which you have done in the sight of all for those who put their trust in you. Psalm 31:19

Psalm 31:19

The Refrain for the Midday Lessons

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,* and your faithfulness to the clouds.

Psalm 36:5

A Reading

Before God and before Christ Jesus who is to be judge of the living and the dead, I charge you, in the name of his appearing and of his kingdom: proclaim the message and, welcome or unwelcome, insist on it. Refute falsehood, correct error, give encouragement—but do all with patience and with care to instruct.

2 Timothy 4:1-2

The Refrain

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,* and your faithfulness to the clouds.

The Midday Psalm

Princely State Is Yours

The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,* until I make your enemies your footstool." The LORD will send the scepter of your power out of Zion,* saying, "Rule over your enemies round about you. Princely state has been yours from the day of your birth;* in the beauty of holiness have I begotten you, like dew from the womb of the morning." The LORD has sworn and he will not recant:* "You are a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek." The Lord who is at your right hand will smite kings in the day of his wrath;* he will rule over the nations.

Psalm 110:1-5

The Refrain

Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,* and your faithfulness to the clouds.

The Small Verse

My help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth and all that is in them. Thanks be to God.

Traditional

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your Name. May your kingdom come, and your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for yours are the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Prayer Appointed for the Week

Remember, O Lord, what you have wrought in us and not what we deserve; and, as you have called me to your service, make me worthy of your calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. &#8224

The Concluding Prayer of the Church

O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon all of us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship may give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. &#8224
