Sermon #8: You are Fierce with Reality
June 21, 2015
Last week, we caught up with Simon Peter as he took a step of faith by following Jesus into the unknown. Before Simon Peter gets out of the boat, I would have loved to ask him a couple of questions. I would have loved to know what Simon Peter knew about himself at this point? Perhaps he would have shared his great joy in finally finding the Messiah, someone who was full of hope and faith, who would rescue his people from their suffering.

    Sermon #7: Lord, Save me!
    June 14, 2015
The story of the people of Israel is the story of a people on the edge of hope. When your options are limited, and you find yourself stuck, overwhelmed, and crying out for help without a clear answer on the way, what do you do? You activate whatever measure of hope and faith you have to keep your head above the crashing waves. For the people of God, there are two basic reactions to painful situations: we cry out to God for help or we cry out to God to right a wrong. After continued prayer, seemingly without answer, out cries often turn to lament. This is acknowledgement that God is wanted and desperately needed to intervene on our behalf.

Sermon #6: Lose Yourself, Find Yourself
    June 7, 2015
We picked Simon as the central figure in this series because he’s one of the only fully formed characters in the Gospels apart from Jesus himself. Simon has a lot to teach us about the art of being yourself.

Sermon #5: Reclaiming our Divine Image in the Company of the Other
    May 31, 2015
Last week as we closed Luke 5, we evaluated Simon’s worldview collision with Jesus. Gripped by shame and fear, we look in on Simon’s decision to leave everything behind, to surrender, and to follow Jesus into life. This was a real choice that Simon made, as Jesus reflected the Divine Mirror, Simon saw someone who had decided to completely trust himself to God, to completely and freely give up everything.

    Sermon #4: The False Self(ie)
    May 24, 2015
We’re continuing in our series, “Mirror Mirror, The Art of Being Yourself.” For this series, we are using Simon, who later becomes Peter, as our guide as he and others have powerful encounters with the living God who reveals to them and us that we aren’t who we think we are.

    A Church That Works
    May 17, 2015
We’ve been working diligently to make the church a place where we can bring ourselves and invite those who matter the most to us to come and find God in a Spirit-led, culturally relevant, biblically informed context. We’ve wanted to create a space of refuge, healing, and welcome – a place of radical transformation.
