A Life Worth Living

Series: A Life Worth Living

A Renovation of Our Heart
May 7, 2017
Speaker: Donnell Wyche

There was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born again.” “How can anyone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” (John 3:1-4, pg 979)

    Taking On My Yoke
    Apr 30, 2017
    Speaker: Donnell Wyche

When you think you have life all figured it out, it doesn’t help to have someone come along and point out you might still be missing something. You’ve cobbled together what you think is your best life with all of the ideas, images, and information you’ve collected, only to meet someone who is living life beyond your wildest dreams. They seem to be living a different kind of life, a life that’s full to overflowing. A life that’s settled, peaceful, and fulfilling. A life that’s currently unimaginable.

    Worth the Risk
    Apr 23, 2017
    Speaker: Donnell Wyche

Asking the question, “Is the unknown reward really worth the task?” We all make choices and are faced with thousands of decisions both small and significant. How do you want your eggs? Cream or sugar in coffee? Do you want a car wash with your gas? Having to process all of these choices can be overwhelming, it can fill us with what the existentialist philosopher, Søren Kierkegaard calls, “the anxiety of freedom.” The anxiety that is produced by freedom has two possible outcomes, fear or creativity.

    The Inverted Triumph
    Apr 9, 2017
    Speaker: Anna Hillaker

Lent has historically been a time of sober and humble self-assessment, a time of coming into the presence of God in an awareness of our need for salvation. It is also a time to serve others. Interestingly, in the book of James, these two things go hand and hand. James calls us to lives of integrity and wholeness epitomized by both personal goodness/holiness and social action.
